What An Enjoyable Sunday Afternoon

I haven't enjoyed myself like that in a long time. Got invited down to Shewolf1's place for the afternoon yesterday. I needed to get out of town anyway. 3000 Jehovah's Witnesses having a convention is more than a bit much for this otter. Traffic was fairly steady for most of the way, but that wasn't surprising. It is the summer holidays after all. Got to her place about 1300. Go out to the deck and have a couple of glasses of her homemade ice wine.Got to meet her husband, the dogs and the ferret. (The ferret was a big hit with me. Go figure.)

Another fur also came to visit, bringing her BF. They came up to check out a site for an upcoming camp-out. We piled into my car and headed up a logging road to the campsite. Afterwards, we drove back down to Okanagan Lake and went for a brief swim. The lake (to me anyways) was quite cold. We didn't stay in for very long. Came back to the house and had "Indian Tacos" for supper. (1st Nations Tacos for you politically correct types out there.) and potato salad (home made.) Simply put, it's a hunk of bannock about the size of a pie plate. On it goes Stag (or whatever brand of chili you prefer.) Chili and cheddar cheese. Heat in the microwave until hot and the cheese has melted. Add onions, lettuce and what ever else you put in your tacos and serve. Damn fine good stuff.

Sat around the fire her husband had going for a little bit. The other visitor and her friend left just after 2000 (I think) because they wanted to catch a movie before heading home. I stayed until 2100 before I called it an evening and headed home. The only thing I forgot to do was hug her goodbye, but I did leave with a bottle of wine.

All in all, a good time was had by all. I can hardly wait for the next get-together.

That's all for now. L8R.

Possibly Fire Camp Bound?

With help from Shewolf1 I got the required firefighting ticket, an application form and am on her fire fighting crew. If she gets called to be on standby tomorrow then I will get a call as well. At least it's not Convergys. *Shudders* and the pay is better. I'll try to get a few pics as well. I'll see what happens.

Canada Day

So much for Canada Day. Was supposed to go for a hike with shewolf1 in Wells Gray Provincial Park, but that got scrubbed at the last moment because she discovered her motorcycle had a flat, thanks to a roofing nail. Came up with a alternate plan agreed to it, but her husband was yapping at her at the same time. (Her words to me on IM about the yapping part.) That was the last I have heard from her. Waited all morning, before going for a drive in the afternoon. Went out to Adams Lake for a couple of short boat (6 car ferry. One to the east shore and the second coming back.) rides. Got home, checked my IM. Nothing. Had supper, farted around online then went to see the fireworks. Someone has loosened the headlight clips on my mountain bike so now I'll have to tighten them down and get them re-adjusted. I would have taken my road bike, but I need to get batteries for the lights on it. Probably should have just driven down. Got b***hed at by several pedestrians for ringing my bell to alert them of my presence. I should have just driven down in the car.

Tomorrow, I head for camp. On the one side, I'm rather excited about it, because I will finally get a half decent paycheque. The job is quite interesting and I know I can do it once I get all the required certification, but I have no idea if I can stand being in a camp. Shewolf1 has told me on a couple of occasions that it's just a matter of getting used to it. If I tough out three days or so, I'll be fine. However, Despite the fellow in charge of the crew wanting me, his second in command does not and is far from happy. As I wrote my DTA (Danger Tree Assessor)they had a lengthy discussion about me (I wasn't supposed to hear of course). The fellow in charge said I was to get a fair chance since I've stuck with the course while the other fellow wants to send me home. I have a feeling that he will do EVERYTHING he can to make sure that, that is what happens. The rest of the crew is neutral (at this point anyway) towards me. I'm neither liked nor disliked, but merely tolerated at best. I think he will try to royally screw me over on the physical aspect. (He already expects me to be able to run 5 KM in under 45 min. Yes, I am fit, but I don't run. I walk or cycle. having to walk with 45 pounds on my back is no big deal, but running with the same weight is an altogether different thing. Stuff like that.) At worst, I'll be despised. (Most likely somewhere leaning towards the not liked end.) I don't know what I'll do if things don't work out this time. This is why I'd rather drive a truck between Kamloops and the coast. I get to be on my own, unless of course friends want to ride shotgun. Maybe it's just me. I guess I'll find out when I get there. I'm on the verge of just giving up.

All of this is giving me the beginnings of what I believe will be a bout of depression. I'm sure miserable this morning.*sighs* I dunno really what to do. Like I said, I'll try to tough it out, but I don't hold any hope of lasting very long with them. L8R.

Why does Murphy Have To Use Me For A F*** Toy?

Just got home from the doctor. I had gone in to see him because it feels like my thyroid is swelling up. If I don't do anything about it, I will start to "dry heave", sometimes severely (To the point where I actually come close to passing out.). That's why I always carry my generic Gravol tablets with me. They are the only thing that works well enough to force my throat to relax.

Why does "Murphy" have to use me for a f*** toy nearly all the time. Anytime something potentially good comes along, usually Murphy has to come along and screw it up. Tomorrow, I gotta go and have some bloodwork done. F***ing joy. I'd like to find out what the cause is and then see if it can be eliminated or controlled with meds or surgery. (God I hope its not the latter.)

That's all for now.
I Dunno If I Can Handle Being A Forest Firefighter.

Got home a little while ago from the Vernon area. Yesterday and today a wildfire fighting outfit from Alberta has let me tag along. Yesterday was mostly job shadowing, though I did participate ine lesson on identifying hazards. (Combustible materials, tree spacing, undergrowth, stuff like that.) helping out in setting up the sprinklers and hoses in the afternoon for protecting structures. Wasn't too bad. Stopped in Falkland for super. (I think the place is called the Ranch Cafe. Good food, though the beer could have been colder.) Decided to go back today. Only a half day for everyone, but it took a lot out of me. Same scenario, Today was a joint exercise between the local fire department and the wildfire crew. Protect a house, (Which was next door to the home of Vernon's mayor.)Go through the briefing, and away we go down to the supply trailer. Get everything we need and off we go. Get up there and get everything set up. For me, it was surprisingly physical. It took a lot out of me to get the tasks done, but done they got. Ended up having to swap out a faulty sprinkler. What "fun",since I ended up getting thoroughly soaked from one of the heavy duty sprinklers. I did appreciate the cool down though. It was all done within the allotted time which I think was two hours. The instructor was happy with how things went, though there were a couple of things he needed to point out. One was the aim of one sprinkler which was aimed at the house instead of being aimed at the roof to allow the water "rain down" on the house. The other was just about the placement of a couple of others. Hop in the truck and bomb back to the fire hall to drop me off.

Now alone with peace and quiet (Damn, these young guys like the stereo way up loud. It was actually painful.) I headed into Vernon for gas and some Timbits. Coming home, I thought about the pros and cons of this job.

PROS:

1: Good pay. Starts at 16 dollars CDN per Hr.

2: Guaranteed employment.

3: Actually find the job interesting.

CONS:

1: Physically demanding.

2: Am not (as in nowhere near) in sufficient shape.

3: Potential for having to spend long periods from home.

4: Most likely have a camp for accommodation. (I'm not a camp person. Not super social either.)

5: Potential for extensive travel. (Don't travel well at times due to unidentified medical problem/condition.)

On the one hand, I'm sorely tempted to take on the job, while at the same time, I don't want to end up as miserable as I was at Convergys. I really do appreciate shewolf1 for telling me about the job, but am far from certain about actually accepting the offer. I don't know what to do. Comments would be appreciated.
Unemployed Again *Sighs*

Just got off the phone with Convergys. They called wondering why I hadn't bothered to come in yesterday and today. I told them that I wasn't happy there, which was the truth. I'm not a verbal punching bag for a load of f***ing stupid idiots. It's not my fault that they mis labeled their packages or or gave the wrong address, or whatever. Usually, I'd be a lot upset that I was fired, but not this time. Now I need to find a new job that I can handle. That won't be easy though because a lot of them you have to be super qualified and or involves heavy lifting. (over 100 Lbs). On top of that, the driving jobs are pretty much a no go thanks to a minor fender bender a few years ago. I have enough money to last a little while, but it will be tight. If my truck was running, I could make a bit of money doing small hauls. Hell, I'm even looking in Vernon and the Kelowna/Westbank area.

Oh well, I guess it's back to searching for work. L8R.

I'm No Auto Recycler *Collapses from exhaustion*

I gave being an auto recyler a go today. I threw in the towel a 1530 this afternoon. The job is NOT for me. I do not have the physical endurance that the job requires. At least I gave it a go.

I'm going to talk to a relative on my Dad's side of the family. She has a nice little job that sounds interesting. Because she worked at Royal Inland Hospital, she now goes there, picks up documents, comes home and types them up on the computer. They are then usually saved to CD and then taken back to the hospital. At least that's how I understand it. Basically a glorified Proof Reader. The pay isn't much apparently, but is better than nothing. Dad also says that there is a courier driver position in the paper as well, so I'll have to look into it as well.

That's all for now. L8R.

Working At An Auto Recycler Maybe?

Had an interview with Rivershore Auto Parts this morning. They're going to give a shot at being an auto dismantler for a couple of days. I hope I get the job, because I've had it with being a verbal punching bag for unhappy Fed EX customers. Needless to say, Mom and Dad are far from happy about it, feeling that benefits are more important than being in a job that I may be good at. So I'm expecting a good bawling out from both.

5 Down And 1 To Go

Well.... I did it. I finished the course part. Got a certificate for the effort. The class had a pot luck lunch (I brought the pop) and in the afternoon our instructor supplied the cake. 1 more week of transition is all that remains. I have no idea how I'm going to do on my own. (I still need a lot of help) Truth be told, I'm not phone rep material and have been asking myself if I should stay or find another line of work. I guess I'll see what happens, because that's about all I can do. I can feel the stress building and that's a bad thing.

Other than that, not a lot going on other than watching the river rise and now, slowly drop. Nothing as exciting as 1999 though. The north central and north western part of BC on the other hand is dealing with flooding.

Dunno what I'll do tomorrow just try to relax and recuperate from the week.L8R.

4 Weeks Down And 2 To Go

This week was all in the class room. We did a lot of bookwork on tracking, tracing (Figuring out why packages have disappeared.) damaged/ missing contents packages, claims and compliments/complaints. On Monday, I begin the transition part of the course. From here on in, I'm on the production floor. Gawd, I'm nervous.

Tried to pay rent on the first, but Mom won't accept the cheque. (300CDN per month was agreed to for rent.) I feel like I'm mooching and I don't want to do that.

Didn't do a whole lot Saturday morning aside from chatting with shewolf1. After lunch I went and got the oil changed in the car. While they were checking the tires, I was told that I had a slow leak in the right rear. Went to OK Tire and had them look at it. I guess it wasn't major because I didn't have to pay. It actually turned out to be a good thing, because my next stop was BCAA and had it not been for getting the tire looked at, would have been caught in in the traffic chaos caused by a 5 car pileup on the Overlander Bridge. Got to BCAA ands registered my car in the CAT (Combat Auto Theft) program. From there, stopped at the beer and wine store and got some beer. Went for a bike ride after supper.

Didn't do much Sunday morning, but in the afternoon I went for a drive over to Merritt and back. Sunburned my arm and leg pretty good so it's a little sore at the moment. other than that, nothing else to report. L8R.

What A Shitty Day

Got up this morning with no real idea what I was gonna do for the day. Kinda sorta listened to the Indy 500 on TV. Around 0930, or there abouts, phoned Shewolf1's place to see if we could get together today. Got her husband who told me she was on her way to Lillooet, but he would tell her that I had called. About 0945, Dad comes to tell me that he's gonna run some phone line to my room so that I can use my Mom's old fax number. (This was "agreed" to before I left Peace River. If I had had any say, I would have had a completely seperate phone line [right from the pole out front to the phone jack in my room.] put in at my own expense.) He went out buy what he needed to do the job and I went online using my Mom's computer. (It's what I'm using right now as a matter of fact) Checked my E-Mail around 1000 to find that Shewolf1 had left a message telling me that she would be passing through today and maybe we could get together later on when she was on her way home. Dad comes home with the required materials and get's the phone line routed through to my room and hooked up. It works, because Mom and Dad tested it. hook modem up to the phone line and... nothing. The ADSL light is not lit up. Every time I've moved, I've had to have technical assistance to the the bloody thing to work. From here on in, my day went downhill.

Phone 310-TELUS, work my through all the automated crap to finally talk to some b***h in China (best guess)who could care less about being proffesional (at least I make an effort) on the phone. Her "solution ( even after I asked to be put through to one of thier computer geeks) was to put a filter on the line. Didn't work, but I already knew it wouldn't work. *sigh* Hung up and tried again. Finally got through to a tekkie who at least made an effort to try to help me. (He was in India. I could tell from listening to other phone reps in the background.) He finally put me through to somewhere where all I got was a trilingual "Thank you for holding in English, Punjabi? and French. After 15 minutes I hung up. F***ing usless...

I guess I could have gone out this afternoon, but I didn't want to be too far away from the phone in case Shewolf phoned. Later on in the afternoon I tried twice by calling her cell number. Again I left my "trademark" messages. By this time I was getting a little on the crabby side of things because Dad was in my room every 2 minutes (at least that's the way it felt to me.) with some excuse about looking for something, or Mom. He's been off work because of the "illegal" (My opinion) strike at CP and now does these annoying things cause he has nothing better to do. Yardwork and trips to the store is not enough.

Kinda watched the Monaco GP, had supper and watched Mythbusters. I would have probably enjoyed the show more if I wasn't feeling so miserable. I wish that I had been able to get ahold of Shewolf bacause I just needed someone to talk to.

Oh well, I go to work tomorrow so at least I'll be outta the house for the day.
The Everything Test

Stole this from Bosun

The Everything Test
There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality

You are more logical than emotional, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more loner than dependent, more lazy than workaholic, more rebel than traditional, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more follower than leader, and more extroverted than introverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), adventurous (69%), innovative (64%), greedy (55%).

Stereotypes

White Trash

59%

Punk Rock

53%

Prep

46%

Life Experience

Sex

25%

Substances

5%

Travel

6%

 Politics
Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 61% of the time.

 Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Working Class. You make more than 66% of those who have taken this test, and 42% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated PG.
By the way, your hottness rank is 52%, hotter than 23% of other test takers.

TAKE THE TEST
brought to you by thatsurveysite

It's American, but still worth taking for a good laugh.

3 Weeks Down and 3 To Go

Despite being a short week, it took forever for the weekend to get here. Being on the phone is a lot intimidating, thogh several Mentors (Phone reps with several years experience) said I did really good. Heres how each day felt/went.

Tuesday:

AAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! THIS IS TOO FUCKING OVERWHELMING AND I CAN'T HANDLE IT!!!! I GOTTA GET OUTA HERE.

Some woman got pissed off with me for being so slow and hung up. Oh well, not my problem.

Wednsday:

Apparently, I was a lot better at doing pickups (which is all I'm supposed to be doing for now.)Some callers still got impatient but that was their problem and not mine. For the most part got everything set up properly but fucked up a couple of calls. They wanted stuff sent ground, but I think I set them up for overnight (air) The highlights of the day was one woman who had opened a ground account and then tried to ship some packages. The thing that you have to remember is, is that you MUST wait 24 hours before you are able to use the account. I handed that call over to a Mentor and she spent 20 minutes trying to tell this person just that. The other highlight was a staff member at a school in West Virginia (I can't remember) who was over the moon when I pronounced the town's name properly. I forget the name of the town.

Thursday:

Went a little bit better than the day before. Fucked up 1 call (same problem)and was slow on a couple of others. Other than that, nothing of intrest to mention here.

Friday: We were in class today (Thank God) We are starting into tracking. I think we are in class all of next week.

As far as the weekend is concerned, I have a couple of small things to do and then I'll take it from there.

2 Weeks Down And 4 To Go

Well, that's week 2 over and done with. More of working the various pickup screens, a little bit more of listening in on calls and to top it all off, the Winterpeg based outfit (Up till 2 weeks ago, it was done onsite) that does our paycheques fucked up spome where along the line and we never got paid. (We get paid on Thursdays) We had the manager of the Kamloops operation come into class and apologise profusely. Today, another of the "higher ups" came in and did the same thing. Apparantly the payroll info was supposed to be faxed to this outfit. But he didn't know if it had been faxed, or couriered to them. My class is the only one affected.Go figure. Anyhoo, the outfit has apparently MAILED out cheques to us and they will likely arrive sometime next week. They should have been couriered. Duhhhh. Quoting Shewolf1 "If I'm going to be screwed, I'd at least like it to be enjoyable." Next week will be "fun". Tue, Wed, Thur and maybe part of Fri will be spent actually taking pickup calls.

Im other news, my parents have gone to Peace River to get the rest of my stuff. While I have been away, Tom, the building manager has been showing the apartment and not only did he lock the deadbolt, but also the doorknob lock. I never had a key for that lock. He had a master key and thus was able to let my parents into the apartment. While he was doing that, he told them that I was the best tenant he has ever had and will sorely miss me.

Dunno what I'll do for the long weekend (look fo 2 screws fo my CB so I can remount it in my truck I guess) That's all for now.
I Survived The First Week Of Training And Shewolf Is Coming To Town *squeeeee*

1 week down, 5 weeks to go. The first day was orientation and a general tour of the call center. Day 2 we started in on our training and got to listen in on a few actual calls. (The entire class will be dealing solely with US callers.) Nothing major. A lady from Caifornia called about having packages mis-directed twice. A couple of people called to arrange pickups at thier homes. There were a couple of calls from regular customers who needed to be re-supplied with Fed EX stuff. Someone called needing to reschedule a pickup because the delivery guy had missed them. (The business is a regular customer.) The wierdest call was from a woman Maryland who called becaused she had just recieved an E-Mail from Fed EX to someons she has never heard of about a package that was waiting to be picked up. It had been shipped back in 2004. The phone rep I was with and the lady finally decided not to worry about it. Me and the rep just looked at each other with expressions that screamed WTF? The last call was from a prison guard in Florida who was calling to confirm that a Fed EX courier was really a Fed EX courier. I thought she was in Alabama going by accent alone. The rest of the week was spent beginning to learn the various screens that we will commonly use.

Yesterday, I took my bike back to the bike shop to get the spoke replaced and in the end me the mechanic agreed that the wheel needed to be replaced. Picked the bike up at noon. After supper, I went for a pedal and the wheel was fine. I've forgotton how much more comfortable I am on a road bike, than a mountian bike. I still want a recumbent type quadracycle from Rhodescar (www.rhodescar.com) like the 4W1P model, just to be different. My options would include the following:

Canopy type roof.
Fenders.
Marine grade seat.
Armrests
Heavy duty electric motor (Forget which one it is)
Lights.
Cargo box.

The only drawback to getting one is of course, cost. Over 3000 US :(

I can hardly wait for Monday evening, or more likely Tuesday evening when me and Shewolf get together. She's coming into town for some training for the upcoming forest fire season. Dunno what we'll do, but I'm sure we will have fun. That's all for now. L8R.

Crud

Picked up my bike today. Just got in the door as a matter of fact. Anyhoo, 58 Dollars CDN for the tune up, had the rear inner tube rplaced as well as the brake blocks. (The rectangular doodads that press on the rim whem you squeeze the brake lever.) and had a couple of spokes replaced. Get almost home, when I hear a ping, like something brushing a spoke. A spoke had broken and now needs to be replaced. Jeez. Now I'm stuck in the house again. I don't blame the mechanic. Spokes are to a bicycle mechanic, what the times tables are to me. Something that is to be left for the super-geniuses of the world. So now, Mom will have to take it in and get the guy to replace the spoke (Should be free of charge.) as I will be busy earning me a paycheque. Oddly enough, I kinda know how the BC Government felt when they had to replace the deck of the current Alexandra bridge a year after it was built. (The bridge was completed in 1965 and the deck replaced the next year.)

Final Weekend Before Job Training

I'm slowly getting settled back in my old room at my parents place. The only "downside" if it can be called that, is that I'm sleeping on the blow up bed, rather than my old bed. I've got my computer set up, but have to wait for dad to play around with the phone lines so I can use my Mom's old fax number. I'm used to having fax numbers for phone numbers anyway, so it's no biggie.

I got my temporary (paper) BC DL (78 Dollars CDN), but had to get a new one made up because they missed my air brakes certification. no charge though. I'm still waiting for the insurance company in AB (Alberta) to send me my claims report, as I have to have it before I can register the car in BC. This just shows if you've made any claims and from that, they determine how much your BC insurance will be. As for number plates, I don't know if I will go with the regular plates, the olympic graphic plates or personalised plates. I'm sure that YIFFY or IMYIFFY will get peoples and fur's attention, but they are on the expensive side.

Took my bike (As in bicycle) in Wed. for a tune up. I was able to use Mom's van to take it in, but as she has gone to the coast to see my dad who is working down there at the moment, I have no way of getting to the bike shop. The busses don't run often enough. There's no way in Hell or anywhere else for that matter of getting my brother to give me a ride. He belongs on Canadas Worst Drivers. Just think of him as that dude from Vancouver (The one who holds his breath going through tunnels) with the tiniest bit of Colin? (That dumf**k that was booted off the show for not trying.) I'm too broke for a cab (I have enough on my credit card as it is and really don't want to add to it.) I'll probably just have to walk.

I really don't have much planned for the weekend except for just sitting back and relaxing, reading library books and going for a bike ride (not very far cause I'm really outta shape.) Monday is the big day though and I'm anxious to get an income again, even though it's less than half of what I was making. The lady in HR said it was "daunting" for her at first, but once you got to know what you were doing, it got easier. Besides, they have lots of coaches to help you along. Other than that, nothing else to add so... L8R.

I'm BC Bound

I went down to visit my parents last week because it was my birthday and come up with a plan for getting me back to BC because there's no way in hell I'm going back to work on that goddamned ferry. There are two problems. The first one is cost. It will cost me, or more accurately, my parents about 5000 Dollars to move my stuff back to their place. At least, that's what I've been told it will cost me. The other is trying to find a place to live. At the start of the week (Tue. I drove down on Mon.) I started looking at apartments online that I could afford. There's a few places, but I don't want to live. One is near Thompson Rivers University, one is a drug-house, and a couple are in a part of town that's going downhill (Because city council lives on the South Shore and heaven forbid should they have to put up with these "undesirables"). So for now, I'll be moving back in with Mom and Dad and *shudders violently* my lazy useless brother. Unlike aforementioned useless brother, I'll be paying 300 a month rent to parents. He just flops there.

I had mentioned that I was willing to work off the costs of moving me, so I applied to Convergys on the 18th of April. The next day (My birthday)Convergys phones and sets up an interview/test. They're either super desperate (Which is why I'm usually hired) or they may actually be willing to train me. Turns out it's both. A couple hours later, I'm told to come back on Tue. to sign papers and my training starts on the 7th of May. 6 Week's of training, 3 months probationary period, after that I believe I will get to work my preferred shift which is afternoons. After 6 months, I get benefits (Medical, dental, vision)

And that is one of the reasons why I had to bow out of a camping trip at Golden Ears Provincial Park that had been set up by fellow furries (Commonly called Anthro, which is short for Anthropomorics. [Not sure of spelling]). That was the only real disappointment of the trip, because I was looking forward to going. Oh well, from the sounds of it, it will be happening again next year and there's always the Fur BBQ later on this summer.

So, I'm moving back to where I want to be and who could blame me. Hot summers, mild winters, friends and relatives nearby and so on. Not that Peace River isn't a bad place to live. I actually like living here, it's just a long drive to get to major stores. Plus it's a 10 to 12 hour drive (Under ideal driving conditions: no deer, smokeys taking Polaroids (Cops with a radar gun), major roadworks, accidents, etc.) to get to Kamloops. I'm at the age now, where that is getting to be a bit much for me. Oh well, maybe I'll luck out and get a place of my own that I actually own and not rent. Yeah, right. Who the fuck am I kidding there? hopefully, I'll prove myself wrong on that last one and the sooner, the better. 11 days and counting. L8R.
